“Change” comes to America, Obama wins

  • Finally the moment for which the whole world was so eagerly waiting has arrived.

The United States Of America has elected 47 year old Illinois senator, Barack “Hussein” Obama as its 44th president. The history has been mde as he is the first African-American to get aticket to the White House in one of the most watched US election of recent times. He posed an emphatic win over and bagged more than 335 of the 538 electoral votes (results still pouring in) as oppsed to his opponent, Republican John McCain who could manage only about 160+ (as of now).

Not only the people of US, the whole world neacceptanceeded a change. US is the most powerful nation in the world, its actions and policies have a direct effect on the world. People of America knew this as well, that is why they turned up in record breaking numbers to come out of 8 years of hell (as everyone calls it) of Bush’s rule . They stood for hours in queues outside voting stations to cast their votes.Everybody wanted to make a change and did their part by casting the vote. Anti-incumbency factor was such sweeping that Obama performed brilliantly even in pro-Republican states.More than 20 months or tireless campaigning has finally paid off.

Though everyone was virtually sure of Obama win, there were some fears like what if racism is still their in the nerves of people even if they do not show it? But it all proved to be a myth as America selected a black man with Hussein as his middle name as their president.
The “I have a dream” speech of Martin Luther King delivered way back in 1963 has finally been realised.

Not only Americans, but the whole world had its eye on Obama in this time of difficulty when we have the worst economic crisis of the century at hand, global warming, terrorism etc. We all hope instances like Iraq will not be repeated. This is a defining moment for America.

The man gave a memorable acceptance speech after just two days of mourning the death of his grandma who he so badly wanted to see through the elections. As Obama appeared at the Grant Park in Chcago,Illinois, a crowd of 240,000 people congratulated him on his winning moment. He delivered one of the best political speeches i have heard or seen. The way he put forward his vision made even an Indian sitting in front of his tv,watching CNN, admire from heart the new leader of US. And I tell you, I never ever imagined writing this post as i have been very critical of American policies myself like ventures like Iraq, but this man made me watch him wanting to hear more of him. Ill get my first chance of casting my vote in upcoming elections and i am sure ill make my every vote count as i firmly believe that every vote is important. You have no right to blame anything if you dont participate in bringing about a change. My worry is that I see no leader to give my vote to.Its like a complete vacuum of honest,non-corrupt and true patriot leaders who can work above party and vote-bank politics. And watching (and listening) Obama today made me feel even more miserable that we don not have a leader as charismatic as him. I felt like, why is he or a person like him not in my country, and I am sure many across the globe may share my opinion. Its mocking as its was like yesterday when the world would have said to America,”hey, Bush is your president? For god-sake keep him to yourselves only”, now the world envies you America, for having a leader like Obama.

Hell I cant remember when was the last time I wanted to hear more from a political leader like I wanted to today! People chanted “Yes we can” and “Yes we did” and Obama promised that he will take America to new heights. He said “This is your victory”. It was a very inspirational speech. I was greatly moved when he mentioned Ann Nixon Cooper, a 106 year old lady who has seen it all. He narrated the whole part so beautifully that I felt if i was an American,I would have had watery eyes (okay,I almost had). The man sounds so amazingly confident that you do not want him to fail. He said he will become the president of even those who did not vote for him in the times to come. He also paid tribute to McCain acknowledging his great contribution and sacrifice for America.

I never thought I would cheer election of a US president, but the man himself and to some extent importance of these elections in wake of current international scenario made me do it.

Congratulations to you Obama.  Lets hope he will bring the change after being sworn in as the president in January 2009.
